Come and discover how lime coatings are made with Olivier BLANCHARD, from "Badigeons et Cie".
Until the industrial revolution, lime was the main binder in construction. Mixed with sand, it was used to build masonry as well as for rendering to protect against water and wind infiltration. It contributed to the solidity of ancient and medieval buildings, as well as to the beauty of works as prestigious as some of the frescoes that decorate them.
- Theoretical part: brief history, explanation of the types of lime (air and hydraulic), their characteristics, properties and qualities. What materials are used to make lime mortar? What are their functions and dosages?
- Practical part: making a gobetis (bonding plaster) and a finishing plaster (trowel-tightened, floated plaster).
