“Smile, You’re in the Red!” is a short, playful piece consisting of three variations on the terrible fate of the little girl with the pancake and the jar of butter. In the tragic vein of the first version, dismembered glove puppets revel in the fable’s cruelty and dance with death. In the second version, an object theater emerges where everything is the opposite: a large green shoe, an old man, a kind wolf, and a naughty little boy.
