Woolstock - Festival of wool

The Musée des Maisons Comtoises presents Woolstock, a themed day devoted to the world of wool! Come and discover our various workshops, where you'll learn about all the stages involved in making a garment.
From shearing to carding to sewing, you'll never see your socks in the same way again!
For this first edition, two specialists will be on hand to talk about their trade and answer all your questions: Patricia Descours - Les Alpagas de la Loue, alpaca and llama breeder, and Guillaume Millot - Tissage de Séquanie, artisan weaver. During the day, we also propose a participative weaving project, which will be exhibited in the weaver's workshop after the event.

Activities from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Wool felting: What's worse than tangled hair? And yet, this technique of extreme intermingling of fibers by trituration will enable you to make your own wool felt fabric!
Wool dyeing: You'll learn how to dye wool using madder. Recognizing, harvesting and using madder will no longer be a secret to you.
Thehistory of shearing: Learn all there is to know about animal shearing. Why we are so interested in wool, how to go about it and what products are made from it. You'll also have the opportunity to enter the museum's sheep pen!
The wool industry: There are many different professions associated with wool. There are a plethora of transformations and applications in our society that are incredibly rich. We'll introduce you to the different stages of processing, the manufacturing trades, the machines and objects involved in working with wool, and the products made from it.
Spinning: In the manufacture of fabrics, each stage is important and must be carried out with care and expertise. Spinning wool with a spinning wheel creates a regular thread of several dozen meters. For the thread to be perfect and usable by the weaver, the wool must be washed and carded beforehand! Come and discover the craft of the spinners of yesteryear!
