Traditional lime plasters

Until the industrial revolution, lime was the main binder in construction. Mixed with sand, it was used both to fill masonry and to make coatings to protect against water and wind infiltration. It contributed to the solidity of ancient and medieval buildings, and to the beauty of works as prestigious as some of the frescoes that decorate them.
- Theoretical part: brief history, types of lime (air and hydraulic), their characteristics, properties and qualities. Which materials to use to make lime mortars ? What are the functions and dosages?
- Practical part: 3 passes of traditional rendering: gobetis (tack coat), dressage (rendering body) and finishing coat (floated or trowel-tightened).
